Urinary tract infections are usually treated with antibiotics. But the specific medication and duration of treatment depend on the type of bacteria present, and the patient’s overall health. Simple UTIs can be treated with antibiotic extra doctor which one is safe in pregnancy complicated UTIs or kidney infections may require further treatment, and usually lasts for at least a week. But a shorter course may be prescribed for an uncomplicated UTI.
If the patient is otherwise healthy pain relievers can also be prescribed to manage discomfort during urination. Patients who experienced frequent UTIs may be given low dose antibiotics, taught to diagnose and treat themselves when symptoms occur, or prescribe a single dose of antibiotics after sexual activity.
Vaginal estrogen therapy may be recommended for women who have reached menopause in severe cases, hospitalization and IV antibiotics may be necessary.
