What are the risk factors for a urinary tract infection?

June 30, 2025

Transcript

Urinary tract infections are more common in females because the urethras are shorter and closer to the rectum, making it easier for bacteria to enter.

Other risk factors for UTIs include previous UTI, sexual activity, changes in vaginal bacteria, such as menopause or with the use of spermicide, pregnancy, older age, structural problems in the urinary tract, and poor hygiene.
